Matches/Teams to learn from By Akira “shinonuma” Shinonuma Any matches are good to learn from but upsets, unexpected and All-Star matches are some of the best matches to learn from. "Upset is a term used when referring to a competition, frequently in electoral politics or sports. When an upset occurs, the party popularly expected to win (the favorite) is defeated by an underdog the majority expects to lose, defying the conventional wisdom." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upset Therefore an underdog team which usually lack in skills, makes up with strats & teamwork. These underdog teams usually have exceptionally simple yet effective strats and teamwork. The same applies for unexpected matches, although the result don’t usually end in a win but often shocks people as to how close the match was. All-Star matches are also good to learn from because an All-Star team is not actually a team but a pug which relies on more simple yet effective kind of strats rather than having strats that required a lot of practice together. A good team to learn from would be Frag Dominant (previously SLP), matches that they won. Although one could argue that they cheat, but a win is a win and are not proven as cheaters. According to an ex-member, buksey, Frag Dominant usually plays without any strats meaning they pug most of the time because of their good chemistry and teamwork. The basic stereotyping of certain teams being good at some maps or has certain skills. For example: Asians are good at de_dust2; French have simple yet effective strats; and etc. Although one what would see no point in watching a lower seeded team being destroyed by a higher seeded team, but by watching the lower seeded team winning a round. One is able to see how the lower seeded team adapts and copes with the much more experience teams. Lower seeded teams often adapt and cope by: • Stacking a bombsite. • Pre-flasing/nading/smoking • Different routines • Quicker/different number of rotaters • Anything out of the norm • Etc. In short fast forward a demo to the part where the lower seeded team wins a round against a higher seeded team, watch for the above pointers.
